AION 2 Class Tier List for New Players (2026)

AION 2 Class Tier List for New Players (October 2026)
I've now leveled multiple classes past 30 and spent too many evenings comparing launch-week damage screenshots with my guild. Here's the honest part first: every AION 2 tier list you'll find disagrees, because the game is two weeks old, sources measure different things (DPS meters vs. dungeon-clear rosters vs. Korean endgame), and NCSoft patches balance constantly. This list is built for new players picking their first character — forgiveness, grouping demand, and value to a party — not for parse chasers.
All rankings below reflect the global launch-window meta as of October 2026, subject to patches.
The Tier List at a Glance
| Tier | Class | Why |
|---|---|---|
| S | Cleric | The only healer and the only resurrection. Instant group invites, basically unkillable solo, and nerfs rarely make healers unemployed. |
| S | Chanter | Launch leaderboard monster (top spots in solo trials and Abyss rankings), party-wide mantra buffs, and solid melee damage. Can't replace a Cleric. |
| A | Ranger | Easiest ranged class, safe leveling, mid-tier now but a documented late-scaler — the "safe long-term bet." |
| A | Templar | The only real tank. Maximum forgiveness, mandatory in parties. Slow kills solo. |
| A | Sorcerer | Launch-week damage king with huge AoE and crowd control — but squishy and a likely nerf candidate. |
| A (high-skill) | Assassin | Highest burst and PvP ceiling in the game, gated by hard mechanics and latency. Avoid on high ping. |
| B+ | Gladiator | Tanky greatsword all-rounder, great solo PvP — but launch personal DPS parsed low. Korean precedent says it scales with gear. |
| B | Spiritmaster | Summoner with the game's scariest group Fear and elite solo capability, but split-attention gameplay and conflicting data. |
Why Do Other Tier Lists Disagree?
Before I break each class down, three reasons rankings look like a coin flip:
- DPS rankings ≠ value rankings. Templar and Cleric parse near the bottom for damage and are simultaneously the two most-wanted classes in party finder.
- Global ≠ Korea. Korean/Taiwan servers are ~11 months ahead, at level 50, post a major all-class balance patch. Ranger and Gladiator in particular look far stronger there. Copying a Korean tier list onto global is how people reroll by mistake.
- Sample sizes are tiny. Two weeks of data, one Season, cap 45. Treat every ranking as provisional.
S Tier
Cleric — the Safest Pick in the Game
- Weapon/role: Mace. The only true healer and the only class with party resurrection (Summon Resurrection).
- Leveling: Easy rotation, self-healing, great sustain — you basically don't die. Your own damage is the lowest of all eight classes.
- Grouping: Instant queue pops at every level and every endgame tier. A party without a good Cleric falls apart in harder content.
- PvP: Wanted in every organized Abyss group; very hard to kill, hard to score killing blows yourself.
- Catch: Buttons are simple; the responsibility is heavy. The party's lives are your mana bar.
Chanter — the Launch Surprise
- Weapon/role: Staff. Melee hybrid support with Mantras — constant auras buffing party attack, move speed, and recovery — plus healing, shields, and genuine melee damage.
- Data: Most dominant class on launch leaderboards (roughly two-thirds of top solo-trial spots and a huge share of top Abyss rankings in one widely cited dataset). IGN calls its damage among the highest in the game; more conservative sources rank it B for "does everything, tops little."
- Catch: It cannot replace a Cleric as main healer, and solo play hides half its value.
A Tier
Ranger — Easiest Ranged Starter
Bow user with traps, mobility, and single-target snipes. Straightforward chains, safe distance, and party crit/speed buffs. Parsed mediocre in week one (B-level leaderboard presence), but on Korean endgame samples Ranger is the single most-appearing class in top rankings — it clearly scales with gear. Weak when something reaches melee range. Full breakdown: AION 2 Ranger Guide
Templar — Indestructible Beginner Tank
Longsword and shield. Taunts bosses, faces them away from the party, cycles shields and damage reduction. Easy rotation, enormous forgiveness, required in every standard group (1 tank + 1 Cleric + 1 Chanter + 2 DPS is the normal 5-man shape), and quietly versatile across every game mode. The trade-off: killing stuff alone is slow. AION 2 Templar Guide
Sorcerer — Glass Cannon With the Launch Crown
Spellbook. Fire and ice trees, massive AoE, freezes, and self-barrier. Topped multiple launch-week damage rankings for PvE and PvP. The catch is the smallest health bar in the game: if you get jumped or can't keep distance, you evaporate. Less ping-sensitive than Assassin, making it the better burst pick for far-away players. AION 2 Sorcerer Guide
Assassin — S Tier Damage, But Earn It
Dual daggers. Stealth opens, shadowsteps, backstab burst — the highest skill ceiling in AION 2 and a launch-favorite PvP pick, with top parse numbers in the right hands. Two hard gates: you must stay behind targets, and the class is brutally latency-dependent — around 100+ ms, chains drop and the rotation slips. Reddit's launch-week "am I bad or is this class weak?" posts were mostly Assassins. Do not make it your first character on a bad connection. AION 2 Assassin Guide and high-ping class guide
B+ / B Tier
Gladiator — the Greatsword All-Rounder (B+)
Tanky greatsword melee with AoE, lifesteal, knock-down combos, and off-tank capability. Fantastic sustain leveling and strong solo PvP — but week-one personal DPS parses were among the lowest (one source graded it C on damage alone), while clear-rate data graded it S for durability and boss stability. Korean late-game data trends upward. Pick it to play everything on one character, not to top meters. AION 2 Gladiator Guide
Spiritmaster — the Pet-Class Wildcard (B)
Orb. Commands four spirit types — earth tanks, wind heals, water restores mana, fire AoEs — plus DoTs and Fear, one of the strongest group controls in the game. Arguably the best soloer alive (your earth spirit tanks, you never stop). Rankings span A to B depending on source, because endgame party slots are uncertain and managing yourself, the pet, and spirit swaps is genuinely busy. Love pet classes and lots of solo play? Strong choice. Get overwhelmed easily? Skip. AION 2 Spiritmaster Guide
Pick by Your Situation
- 🛡️ Three safest first characters (every source agrees): Templar, Ranger, Cleric
- 🌐 High ping (100ms+): avoid Assassin — Ranger, Sorcerer, Cleric, Templar all tolerate lag better
- 🤝 Want instant invites forever: Cleric → Templar → Chanter
- 🗡️ Want big numbers now: Sorcerer, or Assassin with good ping
- 🐺 One account, mostly solo: Gladiator, Ranger, or Spiritmaster
- 🔒 Biggest reminder: classes are locked to the character — no class change exists at launch, and rerolling means redoing 1–45 from scratch.
