AION 2 Gear Transfer Guide: What Carries Over and What Doesn't
When I hit level 45 and better gear started dropping, my first question was: "Do I lose all the enhancement and soul-binding I already paid for?" That's exactly what Gear Transfer is for — but it only moves some of your investment, and getting this wrong is how people waste expensive Manastones. Here's the plain-English version as of October 2026.
What Gear Transfer does
Transfer (labelled Transfer / Global Transfer in the menu) takes the work you put into an old piece and puts it onto a better one. You place the new item in the destination slot and the old item (the donor) in the source slot, confirm, and the progress moves. The donor item is consumed.
It unlocks at character level 45 — before that the option is greyed out, which is why a lot of players don't even find it until endgame.
What carries over, and what doesn't
This is the table I wish I'd had before my first transfer:
| Investment | Transfers? | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Enhancement level (+X) / Amplification | ✅ Yes | Carries across to the new item |
| Soul Binding sub-stat lines | ✅ Yes | Lines and their bind rate move over |
| Skill/passive bonus line (+1 to a skill) | ✅ Sometimes | Only if the new item has the same number of lines |
| The extra Soul Fuse line | ❌ No | The added 5th/6th line does not carry over |
| Manastones (socketed stats) | ❌ No | Not inherited — re-socket the new piece |
| Theostones | ❌ No | Re-apply on the new item |
| Potential | ❌ No | Re-rolled on the new item |
Two consequences bite people:
- Manastones are destroyed when removed and don't survive transfer, so don't sink expensive Superior stones into a weapon you're about to replace. Socket your pricey stones only into a "keeper."
- An item with fixed Soul Binding effects cannot be used as a transfer destination, and you can't transfer between pieces soul-bound to different characters. That cross-character mismatch is the single most common reason people think transfer is "broken" — it's just refusing the request.
The ilvl 70 trap: "I upgraded but my stats didn't go up"
This filled the community boards right after launch. When Soul Binding lines transfer, they keep the same bind percentage they had on the donor — they are not automatically re-maxed for the higher-item-level piece.
So if you transfer a partially soul-bound line onto a shiny ilvl 70 weapon, that line lands at its old percentage, not at 100%. The base stats go up (because ilvl rose), but the soul-bound sub-stats still need to be raised the rest of the way on the new item. Players have tested and confirmed the numbers don't rescale with item level — only with further Soul Binding.
What this means for you: transfer first to bank your Enhancement and lines, then treat Soul Binding on the new keeper as a remaining step rather than assuming it arrived perfect. Do your expensive max-Soul-Binding on a piece you intend to keep, ideally one with good base lines.
Transfer vs Extract vs Soul Bind — don't mix them up
These three buttons do very different jobs:
- Transfer — move Enhancement + Soul Bind onto a keeper upgrade. Donor is consumed.
- Extract — break down white/green/blue leveling gear. You get back the Enhancement Stones you invested in full, a transmog skin of the piece, and a little Kina. This is the default fate of leveling gear because you can't sell gear to NPC vendors in AION 2.
- Soul Sync / Soul Bind / Reset — fix the sub-stat lines on a keeper. Soul Bind raises line values toward 100%; Sync swaps one bad line; Reset re-rolls them all.
A clean rule I follow: extract throwaways, transfer into keepers, and only Soul Bind + socket expensive stones the piece I'll actually wear into the next tier.
A quick word on the extra stat line
Higher-tier gear can hold more sub-stat lines, and there's an additional line you unlock separately (the community calls it the Soul Fuse line) using a rare crafting stone. It adds a random line — you don't pick it. Just know that this bonus line does not transfer, so budget for re-adding it when you upgrade. Dropped gear and crafted gear can have different line counts, which is exactly why a skill line only follows you over when the source and destination line counts match.
My level-45 upgrade order
- Reach the next item-level gate and confirm the new piece is actually an upgrade.
- Fix your weakest slot first (weapon if damage is the bottleneck, armor/accessory if survival or ilvl is gating you).
- Transfer Enhancement + Soul Bind from the old keeper onto the new one.
- Re-raise the Soul Bind percentage on the new piece toward max.
- Re-socket Manastones and re-apply Theostones/Potential only now that it's a confirmed keeper.
- Extract the leftovers to reclaim Enhancement Stones.
That order keeps you from paying twice for sockets and from soul-binding a weapon you'll outlevel in a day. The full endgame picture — including which dungeon drops the next tier — is in the level 45 guide, and the safe enhancement ranges per rarity are in the enhancement guide.
TL;DR
- Transfer unlocks at 45; the donor item is consumed.
- Enhancement and Soul Binding move; Manastones, Theostones, Potential and the Soul Fuse line do not.
- Same-number-of-lines is required for a skill bonus to carry; no cross-character transfers.
- Soul Bind lines transfer at their old %, not re-maxed — keep raising them.
- Extract leveling gear to fully refund Enhancement Stones; socket pricey stuff only on keepers.
