AION 2 Arcana Cards Guide: Slots, Sets, Grades and Farming

Once you hit level 45, AION 2 opens one of its biggest power systems: Arcana — equippable cards that raise your class skills and add stats. It looks like a confusing gacha board at first, but the logic is clean, and understanding one fact — that the Chalice slot is special — tells you exactly where your effort should go. Here's the plain-English guide as of October 2026.

What Arcana are

Arcana are modular card items in five slots: Chalice, Parchment, Compass, Bell and Mirror. Every card gives an Empyrean Lord stat, adds levels to some of your class skills, and counts toward a set bonus. They unlock at level 45, and you manage them through the in-game menu → Arcana, which has Equip, Extract and Transmute tabs.

Crucially, Stigma skills are not on any Arcana list — Arcana only levels your normal Mastery actives and passives. A full set of five Unique cards is worth roughly 100 Empyrean Lord points and 20 skill levels before enhancement, so this is a serious chunk of power, not a side collectible.

The five slots — why Chalice is the chase

The slot decides which skills a card can roll:

Slot Can roll
Chalice Any of your 22 skills, active or passive — the most flexible, most-wanted card
Parchment Active skills only (a limited pool)
Compass Active skills only (a limited pool)
Bell Passive skills only
Mirror Passive skills only

Because a Chalice can carry your single most important damage skill, a Chalice with your main skill on it is the most sought-after card in the game. Parchment and Compass each draw from only about six actives, and Bell/Mirror split the passives, so those are much easier to satisfy. Plan your farming and Transmutation around that scarcity.

The reason these skill levels matter is breakpoints: pushing a skill past a certain level unlocks a powerful change — for example, a Templar's Judgment loses its cooldown at level 16. Arcana can be what gets a core skill over such a threshold.

The two sets: Primal Vigor and Magic Armor

Every card also belongs to one of two families:

You only need 2 pieces to trigger the first set bonus and 4 for the second, and you can mix sets across the five slots. In practice, set bonuses matter less than getting the right skill lines for your build. A common pattern is 2 Vigor + 3 Magic (for example, a Ranger running Vigor Chalice/Parchment and Magic Compass/Bell/Mirror to favor passive crit lines). Equip for the skills first; treat the set bonus as a bonus you tune around them.

Grades and where cards drop (Transcendence)

Cards come in Common, Rare, Epic and Unique grades, and they drop primarily in two Transcendence dungeons:

Each dungeon has four stages gated by equipment item level, with the best card grade per slot rising per stage:

Stage Item level gate Best Compass/Bell or Parchment/Mirror Best Chalice
1 1,600 Rare Common
2 1,900 Epic Rare
3 2,200 Unique Epic
4 2,500 Unique Unique

Notice the Chalice always lags a tier behind: Unique cards begin at Stage 3, but a Unique Chalice only enters the loot pool at Stage 4 (item level 2,500). That 2,200 breakpoint is your first big power spike (Unique Bell/Compass/Parchment/Mirror), with the Unique Chalice being the endgame chase at 2,500. The boss levels also rise across stages, so each gate is a real difficulty increase, not just better loot.

Enhancement, Extract and Transmute

Transmutation priority — spend where the RNG hurts

The established shortcut, in order:

  1. Fill all five slots first with usable cards — don't leave a slot empty chasing perfection.
  2. Build toward a 4-piece set for the second set bonus.
  3. Reach Transcendence Stage 3 (item level 2,200) for your first Unique cards.
  4. Save serious Transmutation spending for the slots where RNG hurts most — especially the Unique Chalice. If a specific Bell/Compass/Parchment/Mirror is blocking your 4-piece, a cheap Transmute to plug that gap is fine, and a narrow active-slot card (Parchment/Compass) is a reasonable second target when two of your core skills share that pool — but the Chalice is where premium crafting ultimately goes.

How this fits the rest of your level-45 build

Arcana sits on top of your gear, Stigma and Daevanion layers rather than replacing them. Get your weapon and basic item level moving first so you can actually enter Transcendence Stage 1, then let Arcana progress in parallel with the dungeon ladder. The overall order is in the level-45 checklist, and the item-level gates line up with the endgame dungeon path covered alongside gear in the enhancement guide. If you're still choosing a class, remember Arcana rewards classes with one dominant skill especially well — compare them on the class tier list.

Common Arcana mistakes

TL;DR

Five card slots unlocked at 45; Chalice can roll any skill and is the chase, Parchment/Compass are active-only and Bell/Mirror passive-only. Mix the Vigor and Magic sets (2/4-piece bonuses) but prioritize skill lines over the set. Cards drop in Deus Research Base and Shattered Arkanis across four stages (1,600/1,900/2,200/2,500); Uniques start at Stage 3, the Unique Chalice only at Stage 4. Fill all slots, hit 4 pieces, reach Stage 3, then spend Transmutation mainly on the Unique Chalice.
