AION 2 Stigma and Daevanion Guide: Skills, Shards and Free Resets
AION 2 has three separate skill systems, and mixing them up is how new players waste resources. Let me untangle them in plain language: your normal Mastery skills use Skill Points, Stigmas are powerful extra skills that use Stigma Shards, and the Daevanion Board is how you push skills past their normal cap. Here's how each one works, how to get the currency, and the best part — resetting is free, so you can experiment.
The basics: how skills unlock
There's no traditional skill tree. Every class learns its skills automatically for free as it levels — by about level 25 you have all 22 of your class's active and passive skills at level 1. You don't buy skills from a trainer; you just level up.
From there, making those skills stronger uses three different systems:
| System | Currency | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Mastery skills | Skill Points | Levels your normal class skills (up to the normal cap) |
| Stigma skills | Stigma Shards | Adds separate, powerful extra abilities |
| Daevanion Board | Daevanion materials | Raises skills past level 10, adds stats/passives |
Spending in one doesn't consume the currency of another, so don't hoard the wrong resource.
Stigmas: your second loadout of skills
Stigmas are class-specific special abilities — big cooldowns, buffs and utility moves on top of your base kit. Think of them as the skills you press manually for impact moments rather than the buttons you spam.
Unlocking the system
- Opens at level 22, after you complete the third Ascension quest called "The One Who Hears the Voice."
- The quest reward includes your first Stigma Shard, enough to learn one level-1 Stigma immediately.
- Each class has 13 Stigma skills to choose from, but you can only equip a few at once.
Stigma slots grow as you level:
| Level | Stigma slots |
|---|---|
| 22 | 1 |
| 27 | 2 |
| 32 | 3 |
| 37 | 4 |
Open the Skills window (K), go to the Stigma tab next to Mastery, pick a skill, hit Acquire, then register it to a Stigma quickslot.
Stigma Shard costs — and why you can't max everything
A Stigma goes up to level 20, and every five levels (5, 10, 15, 20) it automatically gains an extra specialization that boosts the effect. But the shard cost ramps hard:
| Skill level | Shards per level | Total by end of stage |
|---|---|---|
| 1–5 | 1 | 5 |
| 6–10 | 2 | 15 |
| 11–15 | 4 | 35 |
| 16–20 | 8 | 75 |
So maxing one Stigma to 20 costs 75 shards; maxing all four equipped ones costs 300. Past level 20 you also need Superior Stigma Shards. You simply cannot max everything early — you have to pick the skills that actually fit your rotation.
Where Stigma Shards come from
- The Ascension quest gives your first point.
- Leveling up grants about 1 shard per level from 23–39 and 2 per level from 40–45 — roughly 30 shards by level 45. That maxes one Stigma to around level 18 or funds a couple of lower-level skills, so choose your signature ability first.
- From level 46+, each level gives one normal and one Superior shard.
- Endgame faucets: the Abyss Trade Shop (spend Abyss Points, unlocks at 45), the Nightmare shop, and the Shugo Festival shop. The Abyss shop is the big steady source once you're in the endgame loop.
Resets are free — use them
This is the relief everyone wants: you can reset a single Stigma or all of them and get every Stigma Shard back, at no cost. Reset affects the current preset, and the game shows you what will be returned before you confirm. The same is true for normal skills — reset one or all and your Skill Points come back (a full reset also turns off your Specialty effects).
That means the right way to learn your class is to try a Stigma, test it in the content you actually run, and reset if it doesn't fit — not to sit on your shards in fear of a permanent mistake. Two practical cautions:
- You can't change Skill Presets while a Stigma is on cooldown, so swap builds between fights, not mid-pull.
- Note down a setup you liked before a full reset, since a full reset deactivates your Specialties and you'll rebuild the bar.
How to pick Stigmas well
- Start with one active build (PvE leveling is fine) and put shards into the Stigmas that support the rotation you already use. Don't spread points thin across all 13.
- Most Stigmas are long-cooldown impact skills — keep them on their own keys and press them manually for elites and bosses rather than burying them in a spam macro, or they'll get wasted on trash.
- Because resets are free, you can spec for a single boss mechanic, then respec afterward at no penalty.
Daevanion Board: breaking the level-10 wall
Your normal Mastery skills cap around level 10 through Skill Points alone. The Daevanion Board is the node system that lets you keep raising those skills beyond 10 and adds passive stat power. It's the endgame layer that turns a level-45 character into a genuinely strong one, and it's a separate track from Stigmas.
- Feed the board from endgame content and quest/event rewards rather than choosing between it and Stigma shards.
- Prioritize nodes that boost the skills already in your core rotation — raising an ability you press constantly beats a marginal stat node you barely notice.
- There's a PvE path and, once you're in the faction war, a PvP track tied to Abyss Points, so you can lean the board toward the content you play most.
Skill levels are genuinely one of the biggest power levers in the game, which is why Stigmas, Daevanion and Arcana deserve attention once you hit the cap — more on the overall order in the level 45 guide.
Common wastes to avoid
- Don't spend shards across several Stigmas "to have options" while leveling — one strong, leveled Stigma outperforms four low ones.
- Don't socket expensive stones or bind stats on gear before you understand which Stigma build you're keeping — your build affects which stats you want.
- Don't forget the reset exists. It's free and refunds shards; there's no reason to tolerate a skill you don't use.
- Don't confuse Stigma Shards with Skill Points or Daevanion materials when planning a farming session.
If you're still choosing which class to build around, the class tier list and beginner class picks explain which roles are forgiving first, and the beginner mistakes guide covers the other resource traps alongside this one.
