AION 2 Macro Guide: Set Up the In-Game Skill Macro Safely
Once I understood AION 2's macro, my combat went from mashing a dozen keys to holding one button plus a few manual cooldowns. The important word is built-in: AION 2 ships a legitimate in-game macro editor, and using it correctly is completely allowed. The same cannot be said for third-party or hardware macros, so let me show you the safe, intended system and where the ban line is. This covers the global build as of October 2026.
What the macro actually does
You build vertical skill stacks (columns) on your hotbar, then the macro plays through whole stacks in priority order. On each macro row you don't pick a single skill — you pick the hotkey line (the entire column) you set up on that key. Holding the macro button cycles through every stack you added, in the order you placed them, and the game automatically weaves your basic/light attacks in between skills. That basic-attack weaving is a big chunk of why a good macro raises your damage.
You can include up to roughly 20 steps and set a delay between them.
How to build one (step by step)
- Arrange your hotbar first. Put your skills into columns: priority damage skills at the top of each column, with one spammable no-cooldown skill as the filler.
- Open the Skills menu (K) and choose the Macro tab (top right).
- Click Add Macro. On each row, select the hotkey line/column you want, then order the rows by priority (the cooldown skill you most want to fire should come first).
- Set the step interval if you want. The default is about 10 milliseconds, which is fine for leveling and almost everyone. At endgame, some players raise clunky long-animation steps to around 100–150 ms so skills don't fire too early — tune this on a dummy.
- Bind the macro key — this is the step everyone misses. A macro has no key by default, so even a perfect macro does nothing until you assign it: press Esc → Settings → Key Settings → General, scroll to the Gameplay / Macro section, and bind it to a comfortable key or mouse button (a side/thumb button you can hold is popular).
- Test on a training dummy or a weak mob before taking it into a dungeon. Hold the key and watch whether the cycle actually reaches your cooldown abilities instead of stalling on the fillers.
You generally hold left click (or your basic-attack key) and the macro key together so the light attacks weave while the macro rotates skills.
The golden rule: one filler only
Put one, and only one, no-cooldown spammable skill into the macro as filler. If you add two instant/no-cooldown skills, the macro loops on those forever and never reaches your real cooldown abilities — which is the single most common reason people say "my macro does no damage." Structure it so the priority cooldown skills are attempted first and the single filler is what catches all the leftover global cooldowns.
What NOT to put in a macro
Keep these manual, on their own keys:
- Big buffs and burst Stigmas — you want to time these with burn phases and party buffs, not have them fire on cooldown into trash.
- Defensive cooldowns, shields, heals and cleanses — these need a conscious decision in the moment.
- Crowd control, interrupts and gap-closers — using them on the wrong target or at the wrong time wastes them.
- Anything with a long cooldown you want to save for a specific mechanic.
A macro should handle the filler rotation; your brain handles the cooldowns. That split is what separates a good parse from a bot-like one.
Starter macro logic by class style
Use your class's priority skills in the top columns and the class's basic spammable as the single filler:
- Templar: Shield Smite and Warding Strike columns first (to trigger Judgment), then Judgment; keep Taunt and your defensive shield manual.
- Gladiator: knockdown generators and Overhead Slam priority around Rage Burst; keep Rage Burst itself manual so you open the window deliberately.
- Assassin: Quick Slice / Savage Roar to build Insignia toward Insignia Explosion; keep stealth, Heart Gore burst and your dash manual.
- Ranger: the setup chain (Gale/Marking/Snare) leading into Deadshot; keep Deadshot, Vaizel's Authority and Bow of Blessing manual so you only burst inside the Precision window.
- Sorcerer: Fire nukes in priority with one filler; keep Steel Barrier, Frost control and big Fire cooldowns manual.
- Spiritmaster: spirit-summon and Corrode/Fusion priority; keep Ancient Spirit, Fear and re-summons manual.
- Cleric: Chain of Torment/Condemnation as the damage filler; keep all healing, shields, cleanses and resurrection manual.
- Chanter: Spinning/Impactful Crush openers into Dark Crush; keep Mantras, Power of the Storm, the stun and off-heals manual.
The exact skills and breakpoints per class are in the individual class coverage referenced from the class tier list and the beginner class guide; as you add Stigmas and levels, just insert their columns in priority order.
Leveling vs endgame
- Leveling (1–45): leave the delay at 10 ms, use one macro for your whole filler rotation, and don't over-optimize — content is easy. The leveling guide is about reaching the cap efficiently.
- Endgame: make separate macros for single-target boss and AoE/trash, tune delays per skill on the dummy, and update the columns whenever a Stigma or specialty changes your rotation. Always confirm it reaches every cooldown after each edit.
The ban line — read this before watching video tutorials
The in-game macro is intended and allowed, but third-party input automation, external macro software, hardware mouse/keyboard macros, auto-hunt/Auto-battle scripts, and AFK farming are against the rules and are actively enforced — anti-cheat in 2026 scans for macro/automation software running alongside the game. Some popular videos teach Razer Synapse or similar "toggle" mouse macros; those are not the sanctioned in-game system and carry a real ban risk regardless of how common the tutorial is. Stick to:
- Only the built-in Macro tab in the game.
- Playing at the keyboard while it runs (no walking away).
- No external program that sends inputs for you.
Also answer any in-game anti-bot/"are you a robot" prompts honestly — ignoring them while farming is itself a sanction risk.
Common macro mistakes
- Forgetting to bind the macro key in Key Settings (then wondering why nothing happens).
- Adding more than one no-cooldown filler so cooldown skills never fire.
- Burying burst buffs, defensives and CC in the macro instead of keeping them manual.
- Never testing on a dummy, so a stall goes unnoticed in a real fight.
- Chasing external/hardware macros from videos and risking the account — the built-in one already does the job.
TL;DR
Build vertical skill stacks, add their hotkey columns to the in-game Macro tab in priority order, use exactly one spammable filler, leave the 10 ms delay, and bind the macro in Esc → Settings → Key Settings → General → Gameplay/Macro. Hold it plus basic attack; keep buffs, defensives and CC manual; retune on a dummy at endgame. Use only the built-in system — third-party and hardware macros and AFK auto-farming are bannable.
